Privacy Policy for Scales Lab

Last updated: September 19, 2026

Scales Lab ("the app") is a music practice tool that helps musicians practice scales through random selection and a daily-refreshed scale. This policy explains what data, if any, the app collects.

No Personal Data Collection

Scales Lab does not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide any personal information. The app does not collect, store, or share any personally identifiable information (such as your name, email address, or location).

Locally Stored Settings

Your preferences — theme (light/dark/system), notation system, display style, and active scale pool — are stored locally on your device only. This data is never transmitted to us or any third party.

On first launch, the app reads your device's language setting to choose a default language and note-naming system. This happens entirely on your device and is never sent to us or any third party.

Network Requests

The app fetches the daily scale from our backend service (hosted on Microsoft Azure) via a simple, anonymous request. This request does not include any personal or device-identifying information — it is used solely to retrieve the current day's scale content.

As with any internet request, our hosting provider may briefly process your IP address to deliver the response. We do not use it to identify or track you.

No Analytics or Advertising

Scales Lab does not currently use any analytics, crash-reporting, or advertising SDKs, and does not track your usage or behavior.

Children's Privacy

Scales Lab does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13, as no personal information is collected at all.

Changes to This Policy

If Scales Lab's data practices change in the future (for example, if analytics or accounts are added), this policy will be updated accordingly, and the "Last updated" date above will reflect the change.
